Mi Animo visits Valley Campus
The December family night for Mi Animo Prevention featured a trip to the Trinidad State Junior College Valley Campus Cosmetology program where Mi Animo members received haircuts, manicures and pedicures from the Cosmetology students.
Rick Esquibel, a Prevention Specialist and team leader with Mi Animo Prevention, along with three other staff members, sponsored an estimated 80 students, siblings and parents as they gathered to enjoy a pizza dinner along with their cosmetic treatments.
In addition, the students were given gift bags prepared by the Cosmetology program.
Mi Animo Prevention assists the underserved by connecting students from the community with mentors who encourage them to get good grades and to work hard to be successful.
“Gift cards are often given as incentives to motivate the students to perform better,” said Esquibel, “and it works really well.”
Mi Animo Prevention serves students in Alamosa, Center, Del Norte, La Jara, Monte Vista, Sangre de Cristo, Sanford, and San Luis schools. More information about the program is available at SLVMHC.org.
