!!!WELCOME!!!

There are a lot of good reasons for an education in the growing field of today's Aquaculture Industry!

  • WORLD POPULATION GROWTH
  • AQUATIC POLLUTION
  • LOSS OF AQUATIC & WETLAND HABITAT
  • DECLINE IN WILD FISH STOCKS
  • ENDANGERED SPECIES RESTORATION
  • DIET-CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS >
  • FEED CONVERSION SECOND TO NONE
  • INCREASED CONSUMER DEMAND

The Aquaculture Industry in the United States is still steadily gaining momentum and importance.

According to the Western Regional Aquaculture Center's annual report, "production rose to 859 million pounds valued at $828 million in 1995. It is expected that with the continued growth in many sectors of the industry, the aquaculture farm gate value could reach $1 billion in the near future." Aquaculture currently produces about 15 percent of the U.S. supply of fresh fish and seafood.

Aquaculture has become one of the fastest-growing segments in American agriculture today.

This rapid growth of the aquaculture industry has created a strong demand for properly trained technicians in both the private and public sectors. The Aquaculture Technician Program offered by Trinidad State Junior College -- Valley Campus, is designed for students who wish to gain technician, entry-level skills specific to fish culture and fish farm management.
