Cage & Pen Culture

Filling Net Pen

Cage and pen aquaculture continues to play an increasingly important role in the world production of food fish.  This process can provide low-cost alternatives to conventional land-based operations.

There is an enormous variety in the size and design of cages and pens.  They are extremely versatile, easy to harvest and are applicable to different culture situations and with a variety of fish species.
Students of the TSJC Aquaculture Technician Program find themselves culturing tilapia and other fish species within cages and net pens they construct themselves.
