High-tech, intensive tank aquaculture is the direction many fish farmers are going today. With the appropriate technology these culture systems can support production levels in the neighborhood of 3/4 to 1 pound of fish per gallon of water.
These systems always require supplemental oxygenation and complete diets fed to the fish. Students of the TSJC Aquaculture Technician Program culture various fish species in a 35,000-gallon tank as well as a series of 1,500-gallon tanks.
