Pond culture is the most common culture system utilized in the Aquaculture Industry. Ponds can take many shapes and sizes and are classified as excavated, levee or catch ponds. Fish can be raised both extensively and intesively within pond systems.
Students of the TSJC Aquaculture Technician Program culture various fish species within a large reservoir as well as smaller production and research ponds. Pond construction and piping are also stressed.
Integrated aqua- culture is practiced by reusing pond and reservoir effluent via a center pivot irrigation system for the production of potatoes, wheat and barley.
