FAIR LABOR STANDARD ACT DESIGNATION (FLSA): The FLSA designation for this position is non-exempt, therefore would be eligible for overtime.

NOTE: The work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.., Monday through Friday. Emergencies and special functions may require a flexible working schedule including nights and weekends. This position will be required to carry a 24-hour on call pager on a monthly rotation basis with other Physical Plant personnel. Must be willing to accept these hours in order to be considered for this position.

DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATIONAL WORK: This class describes work in the growing and marketing of trees and shrubs and the care of lawns and other landscaped areas. Work in this occupation is physical and includes plant propagation and cultivation; harvesting, delivering, pruning and transplanting plant material, trees, shrubs and flowers; and the planting and care of established lawns, ornamental landscapes, seeding beds, farm lands, and athletic fields. Work involves installing, maintaining and monitoring irrigation systems and greenhouse climate control systems. In the care of plants and landscapes, work also involves application of organic hormones, pesticides, and fertilizers for pest, weed, and disease control and to maximize growth, plant health, and production. Work involves operating a variety of manual tools and cultivation or grounds equipment, which may include tractors, plows, lifters, cultivators, and mowers.

DUTIES: This full time position provides grounds and nursery support to Physical Plant at Trinidad State Junior College. This position maintains vehicles in the motor pool by fueling, checking oil, interior and exterior cleaning and washing. Maintenance and care of grounds on campus which consist of mowing, trimming, raking of lawns, picks up trash, upkeeps and repairs of sprinkling system; trimming trees and shrubs; laying sod and planting flowers. Maintains sidewalks and stairs by removing snow with snow shovel and bladed vehicle, putting ice melt on icy walks and stairs, putting sand on streets and parking lots. Installs and repairs fences, fills pot holes in streets and parking lots; paints curbing for fire lanes, no parking, and handicap parking areas. Performs work from work orders such as moving furniture, setting up tables for meeting and other school functions; delivery of heavy boxes to different buildings and any other work as assigned. Assists other trades position on campus as needed. Delivers mail to post office, runs errands related to job duties as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of grounds care and maintenance, greenhouse, or plant nursery general labor work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado Driver's License. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion in order to be considered for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with groundskeeping related equipment and supplies is preferred. Equipment includes lawn mowing machinery, weed eaters, chainsaws, skidsteer loader, and other tools needed by this position. Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair lawn mowing equipment and small engines.
