FAIR LABOR STANDARD ACT DESIGNATION (FLSA): The FLSA designation for this position is non-exempt, therefore would be eligible for overtime.

NOTE: The work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday - Sunday. Special functions in your designated building may require a flexible working schedule for set-up and securing of building. This position will be required to carry a 24-hour on call pager on a monthly rotation basis with other Physical Plant personnel. Must be willing to accept these hours in order to be considered for this position.

DUTIES: This full-time position provides custodial support to the Physical Plant at Trinidad State Junior College. Position is a training position and will work under the supervision of a Custodian while learning all the proper procedures. Cleans exteriors of building by sweeping and removing trash from entrances, cleaning entry doors, removing snow when needed, emptying ashtrays and trash cans, washing windows, removing cobwebs and cleaning entry mats. Cleans office, classroom, dormitories, and shop areas by dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming carpets and furniture, cleaning windows, emptying trash, cleaning chalkboards, cleaning walls, cleaning classroom desks, dusting, replacing lights, washing light fixtures, cleaning doors and shampooing furniture. Sanitizes drinking fountains and restrooms by disinfecting sinks, toilet bowls, urinals, partitions, drinking fountains, walls, sanitary napkin holders, floors and plumbing fixtures. Fills and polishes all dispensers with toilet paper, hand towels, soap, seat covers and cleans mirrors. Informs supervisor of repair needs and potential hazards. Secures all buildings by locking windows and doors and setting alarms. Maintains floors by stripping and waxing tile floors, spray buffing; shampooing and extracting carpets. Moves equipment, tables, unload vehicles, cleans windows and replaces lighting fixtures. Picks up and delivers supplies. Water plants in buildings. Remove debris from outside of assigned buildings. Paints classrooms, dormitories, and hallways. Removes snow, picks up trash, spread salt on sidewalks, water and cut lawns, trim hedges and tress, rake lawns and cut weeds. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There are no education or experience requirements for entry into positions in this job class.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion in order to be considered for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with custodial equipment and supplies is preferred. Equipment includes vacuums, carpet extractors, buffers/scrubbers, and high speed floor burnishers. Supplies include custodial cleaning chemicals such as sanitizers, disinfectants, carpet shampoos, floor strippers, and wax.
