FAIR LABOR STANDARD ACT DESIGNATION (FLSA): The FLSA designation for this position is non-exempt, therefore would be eligible for overtime.
NOTE: The work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Emergencies and special functions may require a flexible working schedule including nights and weekends. This position will be required to carry a 24-hour on call pager on a monthly rotation basis with other Physical Plant personnel. Must be willing to accept these hours in order to be considered for this position.
DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATIONAL WORK: This class describes work in the construction, maintenance, and alternation of structures, fixtures, and other building equipment. The work involves a variety of tasks in the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and systems associated with buildings. Work includes building, installing, repairing, renovating, demolishing, maintaining, finishing, and painting structures, structural parts, furnishings, locks, and associated building equipment. The work may be in several trades. It includes determining what needs to be done, determining the steps for completing assignments, estimating time and material requirements, and using a variety of hand and power tools.
DUTIES: This full time position provides labor support and assists the Utility Plant Operator at Trinidad State Junior College. This position will perform various minor and major building repairs, maintenance and installation tasks, including reconstruction of offices, replacing floor and ceiling tiles, regluing baseboards and molding. Hangs drywall, finishing, and painting of drywall. Installs bulletin boards, black boards, pictures, plaques, name and number plates. Repairs or replaces doors, screen doors, and window screens. Repairs furniture cabinet doors, and drawers; installs doors, windows, and cabinet hardware. Assists with minor electrical wiring and minor plumbing. Pours and finishes concrete. Glazes windows and doors after installation of frames and steel doors and jambs. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades, building maintenance trades including basic carpentry, painting maintenance or plumbing (part-time experience will be prorated).
SUBSTITUTION: Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS OR CERTIFICATION TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS SUBSTITUTION.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with construction trades related equipment and supplies is preferred. equipment includes portable and stationary tools to include drills, saws, jackhammer skid steer loader, and other tools needed by this position. Ability to read and interpret building blueprints.
